The King of Pop, the most awarded and sold artist in history, winner of dozens of Grammys, philanthropist, businessman, exceptional dancer and charitable figure are just a few ways to describe Michael Jackson. One of the most controversial and quirky artists mankind has ever known, Michael Jackson forged a tremendously successful, productive and influential career and became an irreplaceable idol over the past four decades.

The beginning of Michael's musical career dates back to 1966, when he and his brothers, encouraged by Joe, formed the children's / youth group The Jackson 5. Immediately Michael began to excel as a singer and songwriter, stealing the attention of the audience. Before long, The Jackson 5 won a local competition when they sang the James Brown hit "I Got You (I Feel You)" and began opening concerts by established artists like Sam & Dave and Etta James.

In 1982 Michael Jackson released Thriller, his most emblematic work, which in that same year won seven Grammys, including Record and Producer of the Year, in addition, Jackson became the youngest artist to win the Award Of Merit at the American Music Awards. . Thriller soon became the world's best-selling album; the singles "Billie Jean" and "Beat It" remain smash hits to this day. Taking advantage of the excellent response from the public and critics, Jackson debuted the famous Thriller video, which with its chilling theme and aesthetics quickly became popular. Directed by John Landis, the 14-minute video was considered a breakdown of racial and social barriers, and was chosen by the Library of Congress as an important work for American culture. Until 2009 it was the only music video clip to receive this title.

In the early 1990s, media attention turned more to Michael Jackson's personal life and his strange behavior; Rumors of anorexia and other disorders quickly emerged. Soon the public began to notice that the star was disassociated from reality and the media harassment increased to a sensational point. The public obsession with Jackson's life would not stop for the entire decade and the singer's eccentricism would provide the tabloids with material for years. From acquiring the property known as Neverland to his pet chimpanzee Bubbles, Michael Jackson's actions were so unique that the press began to make up his own stories and the cruel nickname "Wacko Jacko" spread rapidly.

In October 2001, Michael debuted his last unreleased live material, the album Invincible, and gave a concert at Madison Square Garden celebrating thirty years of his solo career, where he shared the stage with Whitney Houston, Destiny's Child and N'Sync. , among others. Once again, the album sold millions of copies and topped popularity charts. One of the most expensive productions in history, Invincible cost $ 30 million and debuted three singles "You Rock My World," "Cry" and "Butterfly."

Shortly before his death, Michael announced a concert series, This Is It, and on the occasion of his 50th birthday, Sony BMG released the hit compilation King Of Pop. Less than three weeks before the This Is It tour began. On June 25, 2009, Michael Jackson died of a heart attack. After the autopsy, the doctor Conrad Murray was charged with involuntary manslaughter, theoretically for administering an accidental overdose of painkillers to the singer. Rey Del Pop's death continues to cause a stir and has been the subject of multiple conspiracy theories. The documentary This Is It was released after his passing.
