Achievement 3 | @junaiidd Task : Content Etiquette| 06-07-2021
As per i understand till now,of steemit.as the rewarding content is concerned, originality of the content is must to win rewards.plagiarism is banned and using copyrighted content without mentioning sources is also banned.
It doesn’t simply mean that you cannot use the content that is online you can get inspiration from that, for the better understanding of any desired topic. You can consult as many sources as you want, for making your posts attractive/informative. Incase you think of using the content as it is,you can still use that but you have to mention the source first, that’s a necessary thing to do.Mentioning the source means you are using his work as yours. It means you are using his work while mentioning that it is done by him. This thing is legal and is also allowed in steemit platform.
If you make use of any content from any source without mentioning that source, it is called as plagiarism,it means that you have used one else’s work as yours, and that’s considered to be cheating. The steemit plagiarism system detects it,they will warn you at first,if you still continue to do so they will ban you permanently or you will get plagiarism tag and then you might get banned. It works in the way as the publishing copyrights work on social media sites like instagram, youtube e.t.c. If you post a story on facebook with some music in background and you didn’t mentioned the source. The story gets removed as soon as you post it. It is also them same like publishing house copyrights.Suppose a third person uses your content for his benefit without mentioning your name or source where you have published that content. This irresponsible act of that person amounts to an offense known as plagiarism. In that case the plagiarist can be sued for this.
Let me further elaborate this concept by taking fishman's definition which says that.
Plagiarism occurs when someone:
- Uses words, ideas, or work products
- Attributable to another identifiable person or source
- Without attributing the work to the source from which it was obtained
- In a situation in which there is a legitimate expectation of original authorship
- In order to obtain some benefit, credit, or gain which need not be monetary.
I have used wikipedia website post, which is mentioned above. This won't be called as plagiarism because I have mentioned that I have taken this definition from the mentioned source.I am giving the whole credit to wikipedia website, whoever views this they will know that this post is from wikipedia. If i just remove this mention(of source),then plagiarism rules will apply for me.
