In the Gospel of St. Matthew, Jesus after announcing the beatitudes and giving the principles of the kingdom of God as the Golden Rule in Matthew 7:12. He decides to give a series of seven parables to enter into reflection with his listeners, with these parables Jesus seeks to illustrate the main characteristics of the Kingdom of God and thus fulfill what was announced by the prophet:
" Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet:
"I will open My mouth in parables;
I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world", Matthew 13:35

This prophecy comes from Psalm 78: 2; the psalms were frequently quoted by the Lord Jesus Christ during his ministry, this psalm mentioned by Jesus is a poem dedicated especially to fidelity to the Lord.
The seven parables of Jesus in this fragment of St. Matthew are: the parable of the sower (Matthew 13: 3-9), the parable of the tares (Matthew 13: 24-30), the parable of the mustard seed (Matthew 13: 31-32), the parable of the leaven (Matthew 13:33), the parable of the treasure (Matthew 13:44), the parable of the pearl (Matthew 13:45) and the parable of the net (Matthew 13:47 -50).
Jesus explains to us that the Kingdom of God is the dominion, empire of the gifts of God. The gifts are perfections and qualities of God, the kingdom of God is the empire of mercy: "Be merciful just as your Father is merciful", Luke 6:36; the dominion of holiness: "Be holy because I am holy" 1 Peter 1:16.
The gifts are progressive like the yeast that ferments and the seed that grows and becomes a bush; spiritual gifts are also self-knowledge; they are that hidden treasure that we have to discover; the kingdom of God is also the most valuable, that is, it is radiant happiness like the pearl of great value.
