"Noble prize in Physiology: A little motivation"

in #life4 years ago

'Laurel wreath' is a circular crown made of branches and leaves of laurel plant. It is believed that Greek God- Apollo wore it on his head. It was a sign of honor awarded to victors of athletes and during poetic meets. "Laureate" is a symbolism for such honorary men. The Nobel prize winners are therefore entitled Nobel Laureates.

Lets learn about the Nobel Prize in Physiology, today!

Perhaps, doing research about "circadian rhythm and sleep" was more important than sleep itself to Jeffrey C. Hall, Michael Rosbash and Michael W. Young, who won the Nobel prize of 2017. They never did it to receive Swedish kronor (SEK) 9.0 million(1 million US dollars) but because it was their everything. Maybe, therefore, hard work is the gift in itself.

The minutes we spare time to read something took somebody whole of his life. Frederick G Banting who was also a physician and painter discovered insulin dedicating the whole of his life into it. Lets value every little thing we study! "Greatness lies in mastery around the fundamentals."

Almost all Nobel prize winners have one thing in common- 'Flow'. Flow is a mental state in which one is fully immersed into something with energized focus and absolute enjoyment. Do what you love and do a lot of it. You will be amazed at what you have done.

The average age of all Physiology Laureates while receiving the Nobel Prize is 58 years. The oldest being Peyton Rous(87), Frederick G. Banting stands out to be the youngest(32). Maybe, therefore, age is nothing but an excuse to do great things.

Of 12 women out of 108 Physiology Laureates since 1901, Barabara McClintock is the only woman who has received an unshared Nobel Prize for the discovery of transposons in genetics. The most common research field for Nobel Laureates in Physiology or Medicine is genetics. It is the field for 48 Nobel Laureates. So before arguing with ourselves about the impracticality of genetics in our everyday life, we must all know that it has been the most favorite recipe of the greatest people.

Adolf Hitler forbade three German Nobel Laureates from accepting the Nobel Prize, including Gerhard Domagk for Physiology. But, Gerhard never felt sorry for his discovery of antibacterial effects of protons; because he already had something that gave him a "kick" and money didn't matter much.

The Nobel Medal for Physiology and Medicine is shown below where it is inscribed:

"Inventas vitam iuvat excoluisse per artes"==>
"And they who bettered life on earth by their newly found mastery."

So, at the end of the day, lets question ourselves.
What are we going to do to make lives better through our mastery?

What has that never been done will we be the first to do?

Lets find our meaning and the Flow of life.
