Turn on Delight
As you walk a little further into 2018, take a moment to remind yourself one of the most important parts of your spiritual journey is delighting yourself in God. "Delight" may seem like an archaic or weak word in our culture, but I don't think there's a better or more powerful one for approaching this year.
Delighting in God is allowing yourself to be genuinely joyful in who Jesus is for you, and who you’re becoming in Him. It’s letting your heart and mind be continually transformed in that joy, and in all the love, grace, peace, kindness, and goodness that comes with it. Delighting yourself in God is trusting Him with your past, present, and future, letting Him speak life into the darkest parts, and wisdom into the brightest.
If you start every day focused on all you have to deal with—especially on what might go wrong—you’ll get overwhelmed and burned out. But if you're centered on a purposeful awareness of God's presence, His joy becomes yours, strengthening you with all you need to make this your best year, no matter what's ahead.
"Trust in the Lord, and do good. Dwell in the land, and feast on His faithfulness. Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust in Him, and He will help you” (Psalm 37:3-5).
