This could have been written yesterday
Note: this may be considered controversial.
I do Bible studies daily. Sometimes I read. Sometimes I listen. It all depends on what's going on at the time.
Last night I was listening and heard this:
Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint;
Preserve my life from dread of the enemy.
Hide me from the secret counsel of evildoers,
From the tumult of those who do iniquity,
Who have sharpened their tongue like a sword.
They aimed bitter speech as their arrow,
To shoot from concealment at the blameless;
Suddenly they shoot at him, and do not fear.
They hold fast to themselves an evil purpose;
They talk of laying snares secretly;
They say, “Who can see them?”
They devise injustices, saying,
“We are ready with a well-conceived plot”;
For the inward thought and the heart of a man are deep.
I know that many people feel like scripture is cryptic, antiquated or irrelevant to the affairs of the modern world yet it still speaks to those who are willing to listen.
This was written by David, King of Israel, some 2500 years ago as he was fleeing either from Saul his predecessor or Absolom his traitorous son. Both of these men were killed - one by suicide, the other by a spear after getting his head caught between branches of a tree while fleeing on horseback.
It seems the more things change, the more they stay the same. There are always people planning the demise others just to promote themselves or their agenda.
I eagerly await the promise of the rest of the passage:
But God will shoot at them with an arrow;
Suddenly they will be wounded.
So they will make him stumble;
Their own tongue is against them;
All who see them will shake the head.
Then all men will fear,
And they will declare the work of God,
And will consider what He has done.
The righteous man will be glad in the Lord and will take refuge in Him;
And all the upright in heart will glory.
