Bible verse about wisdom: What the eyes see is better than what the soul desires. Ecclesiastes 6:9
The Book of Ecclesiastes is a book written by King Solomon where the wise man exposes many ideas of practical and common sense. When the inner fire is not accompanied by intelligence, this is the great problem of fools, King Solomon teaches us.
The prudent man is careful with what he wants, and knows how to properly calculate his actions in the practical field; knowing when a desire is impossible or imprudent to carry out and not risk excessively what we have, is key in an adult person: "What the eyes see is better than what the soul desires", Ecclesiastes 6:9.
Many people, when they propose to do something, the first thing they do is set a very ambitious goal all at once, which in the long run results in failure, knowing how to reason coldly and not act out of vain desire is essential.
Jesus exposes to us something very interesting on this subject: "Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won't you first down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ´This person began to build and wasn't able to finish.´
´Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won't he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace.", Luke 14:28-32.
Many men for pursuing their desires and dreams commit recklessness, the ambition and the greed can become very bad advisers: "What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight.", James 4:1-2.
Not abandoning what is securely held by following foolish desires is proper to the wise and prudent man.
