Thoughts for meditation: Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions
The bible teaches us that the way of fools is the way of error, fools do not follow truth or the science to live (wisdom), but follow their own opinions, the opinion is an intermediate state between knowledge and ignorance: "Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions", Proverbs 18:2.
Jesus tells us in the Gospel of John (John 3: 3-8) that we have to be reborn from above, to perceive the Kingdom of Heaven and to live as children of God, to be reborn means to receive understanding, an intelligent heart (spiritual gift of knowledge), to grasp with the mind the knowledge of God: "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that, ´though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand´", Luke 8:10.
The sensible man is the man endowed with understanding or insight, this faculty of intelligence aims to reach the truth and the essences of the objects, understanding means "reading into the essences": "This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.", Revelations 13:18
The goal of the reason are the temporal and mutable things, but the goal of understanding are the eternal and immutable truths. Some truths can only be understood with an intelligent heart.
Those who have no understanding (spiritual gift of knowledge), or those who do not follow a teacher with understanding sooner or later stumble and fall into a well, it is a metaphorical way of saying that our plans are going to fail and that we are only going to reap ruin by the law of the harvest (Osea 8:7): "If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit", Matthew 15:14.
